This workshop closes two large-scale research projects on the comprehension of reduced word pronunciation variants (e.g. yeshay for yesterday) in conversational speech by both native and non-native listeners. These projects led to intriguing insights (that the hosts will present during the workshop), also concerning the nature of spoken word mental representations. At the same time, the projects raised new questions, especially regarding the interaction between memory traces and speech perception processes. Our speakers will share their take on these issues in plenary talks, and engage in workshop-wide discussions with all participants.
